Untitled Princess #1

Image of Untitled Princess #1

For a long time, my issue with ceramics was subjectivity - I wasn't sure what to make. When you're manipulating text or doing installations or puttering around in other contexts, there is plenty to work with. When handed a lump of mud, what are your options? Too much. And it had been a long time; I was fully committed to conceptual art but it wasn't going anywhere without an object to tie into the audience. Relational Aesthetics I am not. So I got a coloring book for $1 at walmart and started making princess drawings, certainly aware of my status as an aging 90s suburban princess, stunted and rendered relatively childlike by various economic factors and life events.

Grew up during "golden age" of Disney, spoonfed images of unrealistic cartoon beauty as the standard, and 34 years old and single and/or maybe actually queer? No princes in sight, lots of frogs. Not to mention some of the bad guys I ran into in my journey, most of whom I mistakenly trusted to help.

Here's a Simone de Beauvoir quote: "Her wings are cut and then she is blamed for not knowing how to fly".. exactly. But, onward.

About 9" x 11", high fire porcelain - probably 50 different glazes, mostly original. Ready to hang in the hallway in your house with all the pictures of your family.

Everything comes double boxed for a safe journey to you.
